Facebook-owned popular instant messaging app WhatsApp, has announced that company will be ending support for WhatsApp Messenger on Blackberry and Nokia by the end of 2016. In blog post published few days back, WhatsApp wrote they are withdrawing support for the following mobile platforms:
- BlackBerry, including BlackBerry 10
- Nokia S40
- Nokia Symbian S60
- Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
- Windows Phone 7.1
Why this move from WhatsApp?
Few days ago,WhatsApp celebrated it’s seventh year in the social media world,and WhatsApp accepted that it has been an amazing journey for them. In coming months WhatsApp putting an even greater prominence on security features so WhatsApp started to end support for Blacberry,Nokia and even old windows phone. WhatsApp cleared that these mobile devices have been an important part of their story but now they don’t offer the kind of capabilities which WhatsApp need to expand their app’s features in the future. WhatsApp also wrote that the market right now consist of of 99% Android, iOS and Windows 8 phone and above devices. It’s means,WhatsApp will only be available on devices that run on at least Android 2.3, Windows 8, and iOS.

Note: If you are using one of these affected mobile devices, please upgrade your phone to a newer Android, iPhone, or Windows Phone before the end of 2016 to continue using WhatsApp.
