Mobile World Congress 2015 is almost here and that means launches of major flagships are around the corner. Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked, their official press event and the launch event of its previous flagships, will be held on March 1. It will be the launch of the latest Samsung Galaxy smartphone, the S6, and the invites are already out. With teaser images that has set the rumor mills working, Samsung has pretty much decided to create huge hype over their latest offering, a ploy that failed last year with the launch of Galaxy S5.

Samsung’s flagship for 2014, the Galaxy S5, was incredible at least on paper, but it failed to impress critics and end users, more because of the huge expectations than the device’s shortcomings. Prior to the launch, there was endless speculation that  Samsung will finally move away from plastic materials and ages old design principle. But Galaxy S5 was almost identical to Galaxy S4, which also was similar to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3, and that disappointed a lot of fans. Though all the major OEMs maintain the same design principle over the years (the popular sentiment that “I hate Samsung because all their devices look same” can’t be more hypocritical), the choice of materials and the design principle itself was never a classy one.

The Korean based electronics giant though showed their tendency to change their material choice with the launch of Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy Note 4, which carried a metal band all over its sides and the result was a much better looking phone with the same design, over the last year. With the teaser image showing a metal band and reports of Project Zero by Samsung, the Galaxy S6 is expected to come with different materials at least, if not design, and that’s good news for Samsung fans!

Specifications of Galaxy S6 has been more or less confirmed. It is expected to come with a 5″ Super Amoled display with QHD resolution (2560×1440) and 2.5D front glass panel with Gorilla Glass 4 protection, a 20 MP rear camera, capable of capturing UHD and slow motion video, coupled with a 5 MP secondary shooter. Storage will be 32 GB, expandable up to 128 GB and 4 GB RAM. The processor will be octa core Exynos 7420 with Mali-T760 GPU. Other Samsung specific features like Air Gestures and Dual Shot capabilities will also be present in the newest launch. The Edge variant, if launched is expected to carry identical specifications. Rumors and reports about patents by Samsung suggest a unique pop-up feature and a dual-edge curved design. Whether these are just rumors or true reports will be confirmed on March 1 2015!
